A personal knowledge workspace

Your reading.
Your ideas.
Connected.

Give your books, articles and notes a place to meet. Follow the connections, find the source, and make what you read part of how you think.

More than a place to put files

A library is a beginning.
Make something of it.

Keep the original, explore the connections, and give your own thinking room to grow.

READ & KEEP

All those “I’ll read it later” files.
Finally, in one place.

Bring in books, articles or a whole folder. Local readers extract the text; OCR can make scanned pages searchable. Reimporting the same file checks for duplicates.

CONNECT & DISCOVER

See what belongs together.

Move between a book’s structure, recurring topics and linked notes. Open a source whenever a connection catches your attention.

Book structure and keyword matching can work without AI. Wiki generation is a separate, optional AI step.

WRITE & UNDERSTAND

Your words belong here, too.

Capture an idea in your own words. Link notes, revisit what you’ve read, or use your chosen AI connection to ask questions with source references.

MY READING NOTE · EXAMPLE

Leave room for the thought.

Collecting an idea is the start. Connecting it to something I already know makes it useful.

[[Attention]][[Reading practice]]

A little reading. A lasting connection.

From a saved file
to your next idea.

You don’t need to organise everything before you begin. Start with a book and something you’re curious about.

Start in your workspace
  1. 01

    Bring something in.

Import a book, article or folder. Let parsing finish, then open the extracted text to check it.

    Your original stays available.
  2. 02

    Follow what interests you.

Explore chapters and topics in the knowledge graph. Select a connection and go back to the passage that gives it context.

    A connection you can check.
  3. 03

Add a thought of your own.

Write a note, link a related idea, or ask a question with optional AI. Return to the same workspace from your Mac or the web.

Your library grows with your thinking.

Built around your choices

Your library.
Your way of working.

Keep your working library on your Mac or a connected drive. Use local parsing and graphs on their own, or connect AI when it helps. Remote access brings you back to the same workspace.

  • Local text extraction
  • Optional AI connections
  • Protected web sign-in
  • Original sources retained

A few useful answers

Before you
jump in.

Do I need AI to use vKnows?

No. Importing supported files, reading extracted text, writing notes, and exploring book structure or keyword topics can work locally. AI chat, generated Wiki pages and richer semantic connections are optional and require a configured model.

Can I read books as well as documents?

Yes. The library supports EPUB, MOBI, PDF, common Office formats, Markdown and more. You can import folders and ZIP archives. Extraction depends on the file’s contents; protected or damaged books may need attention.

Is the web workspace separate from the Mac app?

No. This setup opens the workspace served by your Mac. The Mac must be running, online and connected to its library drive. vKnows can prevent automatic idle sleep while the app runs; explicit sleep, shutdown or quitting the app interrupts access.

What does “source-linked” mean?

A useful connection should lead somewhere you can read. vKnows keeps documents, extracted passages and links available so you can check the context. A shared keyword suggests a connection; it does not prove two sources agree.

Can I open it from a work computer?

The website uses HTTPS, and the workspace requires sign-in. Enterprise web filters may require an IT allowlist for vknows.me and app.vknows.me. Access depends on your organisation’s policies.
